Directional Drilling

Directional boring is a trenchless and low impact method of installing conduits, pipes, and wires under existing landscape or hardscape. A machine with a rack of “rods” pushes and drills a drill bit through the ground. The drill bit is sloped on one side and has a locator beacon that you can track on the surface. The locator shows the operator the angle/direction, the roll of the bit showing what direction the slope is facing and the depth. With these three reference points you can tell the exact location and trajectory of the drill bit. By pushing the bit you can adjust the heading of the bit and by drilling you can maintain a straight course. With this technology we can aim and direct the bit to an exact location within an inch.

When your bore is complete you excavate the drill bit and connect your product to be installed. For pipes larger than 2” in diameter we will typically attach a reamer to enlarge the bored hole. We then rotate the reamer or drill head and pull the pipe back at the same time. Other than the entry and exit points there is no other damage to the existing landscape and hardscape.
